Student Registration During School Closure

Student RegistrationThe Douglas County School District is accepting Kindergarten Registrations for the 2020-2021
school year.  With school buildings closed due to the Corona Virus Pandemic our schools will be
accepting registration forms by email, fax, or mail.

A completed packet may also be dropped off at the Douglas County School District Office at 1638 Mono Avenue in Minden.  If you prefer a printed copy of the registration packet, please contact your local elementary school and arrangements will be made to provide you a copy.

Your child must be 5 years old by September 30, 2020 to attend kindergarten during the 2020-2021 school year. Original birth certificate, up-to-date immunizations, and proof of physical residency (mortgage or rental  agreement, utility bill with street address, etc.) in your neighborhood are required to register your child.

DURING THIS TIME OF SCHOOL CLOSURE - You may submit all completed registration forms other than birth certificate, immunizations, and proof of residency. Once school offices are permitted to be open you will be contacted to set up an appointment to complete your registration with the birth certificate, current immunizations, and proof of residency. Early registration is encouraged. Late registrations potentially may be accommodated at a neighboring overflow school based on enrollments.

This information is provided to assist you in registering your child in a Douglas County School. The school district has zoned school attendance areas. You can use our school zone finder tool to find out what school your child should attend or contact the Transportation Department at (775) 782-5194.  Then contact the registrar at the school to enroll your child.  The student registration forms are available by clicking the link below so that you can take the completed forms to the registrar at the school. You will also need to provide the following documents in order to register your child:

  • Original birth certificate or other document suitable as proof of the child's identity (NRS 392.165);
  • Complete and up-to-date immunization records or an Immunization Exemption (NRS 392.435); and
  • Proof of residency (utility bill with street address)

There are two types of variances available:Map

Inter-District variances are used when a family lives in a county other than Douglas, but would like their child to attend a Douglas County school.

Intra-District variances are used when a family resides in Douglas County, but wants their child to attend a school outside of their zone.

Below you will find the appropriate forms and instructions for both types of variances.

Site principals can approve or deny any variance request.  A new variance application must be completed and submitted each school year.  Generally, school sites begin accepting variance requests during the summer months for the upcoming school year in order to ensure their site has the capability of servicing the variance requests based on enrollment.
